UCD Prospectus 2008–2013
Between 2008 and 2013, I designed the UCD undergraduate prospectus. The core aims of the prospectus are to inform potential students about the range of courses on offer, the points requirements, the various application procedures and the day-to-day student life at UCD. In other words, one giant UCD encyclopaedia. The university wanted the design to remain in tune with the student mindset, namely providing information in bite-sized chunks with specific nods to social media and UCD’s online portal, where students can access more information as required.

The solution
The prospectus design had to accommodate the cultural shift of the modern student, who is more ‘connected’ than ever before. The core aim, therefore, was to drive students to the online UCD portal to find out more. Both the content and design were streamlined as much as possible to filter out unnecessary information. Each course page offered a simple interface: larger synopsis points listed at the beginning of each page; smaller bursts of information to impart specific course details; and colourful faculty colour. I also featured a student sound bite on each page to give real insight into life at UCD. This was an interesting process as I worked on site with the UCD team, which meant design decisions were easily fast-tracked and content issues were dealt with in person. Credit: Aiden Kenny, BFK.
