Aer Lingus Rugby Plane
While working in BFK, Aer Lingus commissioned us to design an A320 aircraft livery to promote their sponsorship of the Irish rugby team. The primary goal was to raise awareness of the sponsorship but also to rally support for the team with the hashtag #GreenSpirit. The aircraft (the EI DEO) would ferry the Irish rugby team, management and support staff to matches across Europe.

The solution
Four Irish rugby players were chosen to appear on the EI DEO livery were Tommy Bowe, Rob Kearney, Robbie Henshaw and Conor Murray. Once I established the player’s positions on the fuselage, along with the #GreenSpirit hashtag, I extended arcs of green from the nose right through the body of the aircraft. These arcs culminated on the tailfin where they wrapped around a stylised rugby ball featuring the Aer Lingus shamrock. It is not often you get to see one of your designs travelling at 37,000 feet! Image copyright: Aer Lingus.
