Nexus Innovation Centre
University of Limerick established an on-campus business innovation centre to help budding entrepreneurs develop their ideas. The University had a clear vision and brand positioning but needed a name and brand identity to reflect it. BFK was tasked with creating both. After an intensive consultation and strategic naming process, the Nexus Innovation Centre was born. (Nexus translates as a means of connection between members of a group.) This was seen as the perfect fit for the brand proposition. The next challenge was to design the brand identity to bring the name to life.

The solution
Inspired by the idea of a nexus being a connected, central focal point, the solution revolved around this circular concept. It was important for me to capture the energy and connection which occurs at the start of a collaboration – in this instance the partnership between budding entrepreneurs and the Innovation Centre. My resulting design solution is a series of colourful, concentric circles which emanate outwards. This communicated that sense of energy. The nexus symbol was then paired with strong, structured typography which provided balance to the colourful identity. Credit: Aiden Kenny, Martin Crotty, BFK.
